Lambeth Council is introducing a School Street at drop off and pick up times, starting on 17th June 2024.
What is a School Street?
School Streets are temporary prohibitions of vehicles on roads near schools, aiming to reduce road danger, improve air quality and increase active travel to school.
How does it work?
The School Street will operate from 3rd June 2024, and includes Palace Road between the junctions of Barstow Crescent and Coburg Crescent, Presentation Mews, and Bushell Close. It will operate between 8.15-9.15am and 2.45-3.45pm, Monday to Friday. The map below to shows the closure points.
Emergency vehicles who need access will still be able to enter at all times.
Blue Badge holders who need access and residents with vehicles registered to an address within the School Streets zone will also be able to enter at all times but will need to apply for an exemption permit. More information about applying for an exemption can be found on the Lambeth website or by calling Lambeth Council on 0207 926 9000.
All other vehicles (examples below) are restricted from using the School Street zone during the times outlined above:
- Tradespeople
- Contractors
- Visitors
- Parents and school staff
- Delivery drivers
- Drivers who do not live in the school street zone but who do have a local resident’s parking permit
Is the School Street permanent?
During the first six months of the scheme, Lambeth are collecting feedback to assess how each School Street is working. These comments will be taken into consideration when deciding whether to make the schemes permanent.
How do I provide feedback?
Lambeth will be collecting feedback for 6 months from 17th June 2024. If you have any questions, you can read more information on the School Streets website, or contact schoolstreets@lambeth.gov.uk
