Lambeth Council have signed up for No Mow May again this year. Plantlife’s annual No Mow May campaign calls for all areas of grass/lawns not to be mowed during May, letting wildflowers grow, which in turn provide a feast for pollinators and tackles pollution.
In the UK we’ve lost approximately 97% of flower-rich meadows since the 1930’s and with them gone are vital food needed by pollinators, like bees and butterflies. Leaving patches of grassy areas to grow longer this summer allows native flowers to bloom for bees and butterflies and provides shelter for small mammals. A healthy area of grass, with some long grass and wildflowers benefits wildlife, tackles pollution, and can even lock away carbon below ground. Together even the smallest grassy patches add up to a significant proportion of our land which, if managed properly, can deliver enormous gains for nature, communities and the climate.

This is borough wide Lambeth decision. PRERA does not have decision making power on this and has not been granted access to the schedule of works. Mowing will re-commence from June.
